DIY Face Masks

A. Soothing Oatmeal & Honey Mask

  • 2 tablespoons ground oatmeal (or finely ground oats)
  • 1 tablespoon raw honey
  • 1 tablespoon plain yogurt or water (adjust for consistency)

Mix all ingredients until you get a spreadable paste. Apply to clean face, leave for 10-15 minutes, then rinse with warm water. Good for sensitive or dry skin.

B. Brightening Turmeric & Yogurt Mask

  • 1 tablespoon plain yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon honey

Mix and apply evenly to face. Leave 10-15 minutes. Rinse thoroughly. Turmeric helps with glow and reduces inflammation.

C. Clay & Aloe Mask for Oily/Acne-Prone Skin

  • 1 tablespoon bentonite or green clay
  • 1 tablespoon aloe vera gel
  • A few drops tea tree oil (optional)

Mix until smooth. Apply, leave 10-15 minutes, rinse. Clay draws out impurities and soothes skin.

Instructions:

  • Mix all dry ingredients in a bowl.
  • Slowly add oils and coloring.
  • Spray lightly with witch hazel, mixing until the texture holds when squeezed.
  • Press into silicone molds and let dry overnight.

These fizz in the tub and leave skin soft and gently scented!

DIY Vitamin C After-Pool Spray

Gentle dechlorination for skin after swimming

Chlorine can dry out the skin, trigger irritation, and even affect sensitive lungs. After pool time, we always reach for this simple, natural Vitamin C spray. It helps neutralize chlorine on the skin and is safe for kids and adults alike. Plus, it takes less than a minute to make.

Ingredients:

  • ½ teaspoon powdered Vitamin C (ascorbic acid)
  • 4 oz filtered or distilled water
  • Small spray bottle

Instructions:

  • Add the powdered Vitamin C to the spray bottle.
  • Pour in the water and shake well until fully dissolved.
  • Spray directly onto skin after swimming, then gently pat dry.

Notes:

Store in the fridge for extra refreshment and to extend shelf life.
Use within 1–2 weeks for best potency.
This spray is not meant to replace a shower but is a great quick fix when you can’t rinse right away.

And if you don’t have time to DIY, I finally found something I love just as much:

This Vitamin C soap has been a game-changer. I’ve been searching for a gentle, effective bar that wouldn’t dry out our skin—and this one checks all the boxes.

And this shampoo is my new favorite find. It smells amazing, works beautifully after chlorine, and doesn’t leave our hair frizzy or tangled.

  • Heat up the water and add it to the mixture.

Snow Dough (2-Ingredient Recipe)

Great for winter-themed bins or pretend baking.

  • 2 cups cornstarch
  • ½ cup vegetable oil or baby oil

Instructions:

  • Mix until it forms soft, crumbly dough that packs like snow.
  • Add peppermint essential oil for a wintery scent (optional).

Frozen Treasure Hunt

Perfect for summer sensory fun!

What you need:

  • Small toys (animals, buttons, beads)
  • A large bowl or container
  • Water + a few drops of food coloring

Instructions:

  • Freeze toys in layers with water.
  • Let kids melt or chip away the ice using warm water, spoons, or pipettes.

Oobleck – A Non-Newtonian Sensory Favorite

We love making oobleck at home. It’s part science experiment, part sensory play, and 100% fun. Oobleck is a non-Newtonian fluid—it acts like a liquid when you pour it slowly, but feels solid when you punch or squeeze it. It's an amazing hands-on way for kids to explore textures, pressure, and cause-and-effect.

What You Need:

  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • ½ cup water (add more as needed for consistency)
  • Natural food coloring (optional — turmeric, beet juice, spinach water, etc.)

How to Make It:

  • In a bowl, combine the cornstarch and water.
  • Mix with your hands or a spoon until it reaches a goopy, strange consistency.
  • You’ll know it’s ready when it feels hard when you tap or squeeze it, but flows when left alone.
  • Add a bit of natural coloring if you like—just a few drops!

Ways to Play:

  • Tap it hard—it feels solid.
  • Slowly sink your fingers in—it melts like a liquid.
  • Drop in marbles, spoons, or toy animals and watch them move through it.
  • Scoop it, stir it, and talk about how it changes!

Important Cleanup Tip: Do not pour oobleck down the drain—it can clog pipes. Instead, throw it in the trash once it dries or scoop it into a compostable bag.
